H-E-B Family Fitness Event with Jillian Michaels

at the Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, TX

We were all told to bring the family out and enjoy a morning of fun and fitness, and did we ever?!

Health and Wellness Expert Jillian Michaels hosted a FREE 30 minute, hardcore workout to the public!

What an amazing event!  I had no idea how uplifting this festival was going to be until I actually arrived and saw the excited faces of the kids and parents ready to make a huge change to their lives.  Becoming healthy seems to be on everyone’s minds these days and that is a good thing!  We all need to realize that our country is one of the most obese places to live in the world and we need to make a drastic change, for the better.  I’m not one to preach to the choir because I absolutely hate working out, but I get my butt off the couch and go run a few miles every week and eat really healthy on a daily basis.  It isn’t hard and it only takes me 4-5 hours each week to go run and exercise!  I should be doing this more, I know, but even the little bit I do exercise, I feel 100000000000x better than I did before!  Jillian Michaels is such an inspiration to me and so many people in this country. It was amazing to actually see her in person trying to help our city out and spread the word at the Family Fitness Festival.   Dole even sponsored this event and provided HUNDREDS of healthy snacks and drinks for the participants to enjoy after their brutal, 30 minute workout!

The festival kicked off with a flash mob at 7:30 a.m. that included Michaels 40 educators and representatives from 10 school campuses and eight school districts from across the state that are finalists for a 2011 H-E-B Excellence in Education Award. Afterwards Jillian led the flash mob participants and a group of drummers in a procession from the Hilton Austin Hotel to the Texas School for the Deaf for the start of the H-E-B Family Fitness Festival. At the festival Michaels led a 30-minute workout and talked a little on the importance of being healthy and staying on the right nutritional track.

“Childhood obesity has become a devastating pandemic that can not be ignored. Being fit and healthy creates strength that transfers into every facet of our lives. We must educate our youth to make the proper choices, creating healthy habits now and I’m thrilled to join forces with H-E-B to bring this message of health and wellness to families helping put both parents and children on track to better health,” said Michaels.

This was an event being held in celebration of the 10th Anniversary of H-E-B’s Excellence in Education Awards. H-E-B, a strong supporter of health and wellness initiatives in Texas, hosted the event with the aim of placing families on the track toward better health.

“H-E-B is strongly committed toward supporting and implementing programs that make our Texas communities healthier and stronger,” said Kate Rogers, Vice President of Communication for H-E-B. “We are excited to welcome Jillian to Texas to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of our education program. Through our focus on health and wellness, we look to inspire Texas educators to adopt a new definition of healthy and affect change in their schools and communities.”
